Copte winner of the 2007 Pierre-JosephThis richly illustrated book traces the history of the Cosquer Cave, a unique prehistoric decorated site immersed in the Calanques of Marseille. The cave was frequented for millennia by hunter gatherers of the Paleolithic period, between 33,000 and 19,000 years ago. They painted and engraved hundreds of signs and animal figures (horses, bison, ibexes, etc.) including marine animals unique in all cave art (seals and penguins). Partially submerged 9,000
