The Shreveport Steamer were a professional American football team in the World Football League

but took the "Sharks" name after the proposed San Francisco Sharks franchise (not to be confused with the current NHL San Jose Sharks) was transferred to Quebec and became the Nordiques before the WHA began play

Both teams played their home games at the Portland Ice Arena

The stadium first opened in 1956 to the Twins with a seating capacity of 18,200. By it's final season in 1981, renovations and additions would allow for a total seating capacity of 48,446 for football games. Throughout the venue's 45 year lifespan, several teams would play their home games here including the Twins, Vikings, and Kicks of the NASL.
