Specializing in the state of the art treatments of his day, including leeches, lancets and herbs, Dr. Hugh Mercer served the citizens of Fredericksburg in the eighteenth century. Dr. Mercer joined the Revolutionary army after practicing medicine for fifteen years; he was killed in action at
